Tuesday 23rd of August

A genuine do-little day.  I think that 30C+ temps for the last ten days (it seems) is taking its toll.  Difficult to motivate yourself to go out but it's still too warm to stay inside.  The thought of cycling in this heat is often worse than the actuality of it.  Once moving it's actually not that bad unless you happen to be heading up a particularly steep slope in the sun and then it's tough.  The air that you pass through does have reasonable cooling qualities even if there is little actual wind.  This presumably is why you sweat so much in a spin class, even with one in an air conditioned room.

I eventually made it out for some exercise in the late afternoon, heading through the village and up the gentle slope of the valley to a point where I thought if I turned around I'd have done 10k.  In the end I ran for 6 miles (just under 10k) and with a slow start and a steady upward climb of a few percent gradient was offset by using the advantage of that few percent gradient on the return leg.  In the end I was a little under 50 minutes which was ok by me.

Tomorrow a trip to the mountains again...
