Friday 19th of August

A lazy morning but the intention was to have an early lunch and then head over to the outdoor concert by Goran Bregovic at Pieve Testino.  It wasn't a long drive and finding somewhere to park wasn't that difficult but even before we set off we knew that the heat was going to be an issue.

35c was a little toasty.  Found somewhere in the shade thankfully
A field in the mountains, not your usual location for a gig but that was the point
The crowd building up as we arrived
The gig in action - it got hotter and smellier as you got nearer the front (more dancing)
The band in action. The poor women in the black heavy dresses looked ready to faint at any moment

The music was good but as you can see from the pics the PA system was a little optimistic given the space it had to fill.  From my place in the shade I could hear ok but could see nothing.  Still it was an interesting time.

After maybe 90 mins there we were just too hot (caldissimo!) and so Chiara had heard of an art exhibition in the mountains just down the road so we headed towards that. http://www.artesella.it/

We stopped for a coffee and a break in Borgo and to get some directions.  It was a nice little town.
Soon we were heading up from the valley into the mountains.  Sella was at something like 900m so there was quite a climb up there in the car and plenty of hair pins and strada stretta (narrow roads).  Eventually we arrived at the nearest car park and set off walking to the exhibition location.
Looking down to Borgo (perhaps) - taken on the way back down
There follows quite a few pics with minimal explanation other than they were exhibits at the natural art exhibition, mostly wood but also some stone.  There were more exhibits than I show pictures of here but you get the gist.....
Stone carving - I didn't really notice this on the way in but caught my eye on the way out

Another visitor showed the acoustics (which sounded ok to me) with a little singing
This is one of the side walls of the natural theatre which I really liked
Close up of the stage
The entrance to the theatre - it's a pity the gig wasn't here - was about 28C much cooler
Water collectors

Impressive line up

Well worth the 5 euros entry fee.

In the evening we had dinner at home and then around to Uncle zio Oscars for coffee and Chartreuse and prune liquor.  After beer and wine already I was a little light headed but it was fun reading his school book from 50 years ago and looking at old pictures.  Uncle Oscar has now gone back to Milan though so no more bumping into him all over the place.
